Containing Anti-microbial Resistance
Anti-microbial resistance is a global public health issue that continues to plague current treatments to infections caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi. Drug resistant microbes present an increasing threat that needs to be addressed on a worldwide scale.
For instance resistance to earlier generation anti-malarial drugs is widespread in most malaria-endemic countries. Further spread or emergence in other regions of resistance to newer generation antimalarials such as Artemisinin could jeopardize important recent gains in control of the disease.
Empower is working with various agencies to help combat anti-microbial resistance. The following framework has been developed by Empower in combating the resistance. This framework identifies a variety of interventions at various levels of resistance, tailored to prevent the spread of resistant microbes.
