UNDP-Empower Workshop on Promoting Use of Biodegradable Packaging Materials for Health Commodities
United Nations Development Program (UNDP) intends to support the green supply chain initiatives and focus on reduction of packaging materials and promote use of biodegradable packaging materials for health commodities. Based on pilot studies conducted in South Sudan, it has been found that the ARVs and other essential medicines are a good entry point for this initiative. As India is the leading supplier of essential medicines to the world, the inaugural discussion to explore this topic is being held in New Delhi. UNDP would launch the two-day workshop wherein, we would discuss the barriers for the use of biodegradable packaging materials for ARVs / essential medicines and other health commodities and propose the development of a long-term strategy and action plan for biodegradable packaging materials. The group of participants will be a mix of regulatory agencies, pharmaceutical industry (manufacturers, suppliers of packaging materials, association of Indian pharmaceutical manufacturers), and UN agencies (WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, World Bank, among others).
