Strengthening Africa’s Health Security Through Local Manufacturing Excellence

We are proud to announce a major milestone in Africa’s journey toward self-reliance in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), a Presidential Initiative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has signed a long-term agreement with Empower Swiss, Geneva to begin the establishment of a world-class training facility for manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, biologicals, and diagnostics.

The agreement was formalized in the presence of the Hon. Minister of Health and Social Welfare, H.E. Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, marking a bold step forward in building skilled human capital for biomanufacturing in Africa.

This academy will:

🔬 Support workforce development for pharmaceutical production capacity in Nigeria

🎓 Train the next generation of pharmaceutical manufacturing professionals

🏭 Transform Nigeria into a hub of local manufacturing excellence

🌍 Contribute to sustainable access to quality medicines and vaccines across Africa

This visionary initiative aligns with national and continental strategies for health sovereignty, resilience, and economic empowerment.

Official Kick-off of the Strategic Training Executive Programme (STEP 2.0) Kenya

Empower School of Health, in collaboration with The Global Fund and IFPW Foundation, has officially launched the STEP 2.0 Leadership Programme, Kenya. This cohort includes 25 supply chain directors, deputy directors, and senior managers from the Directorate of Health Products and Technologies (DHPT), Ministry of Health; the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA); and 9 counties across Kenya.

Coordinated by People that Deliver Coalition, the STEP 2.0 Programme aims to strengthen leadership and transformative capacity within Kenya's public health supply chain. Participants will engage in hands-on learning, peer collaboration, and systems thinking to drive impactful change in their institutions. With guidance from coaches from Pfizer, IQVIA, Merck, Red Lightning, and Sanofi, the participants will tackle real-time supply chain challenges within the public health supply chain.

The in-person workshop is scheduled for 2-6 June 2025 and will be a critical milestone in the participants’ leadership journey.

Empower is excited to continue supporting public health professionals across Africa in building sustainable, people-centred supply chain systems.
